This winter, students from the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering (AiCE) program traveled on a transformative journey to Mae Sot, Tak Province, as part of the CMKL Winter Camp 2024. Under the theme of "AI and Computer Engineering for Community Impact," participants dedicated their time to meaningful initiatives that aligned with their educational aspirations.
โ
The primary goal of the one-week camp was to construct a Learning Management System (LMS) for the Minmahaw School, a post-secondary boarding school in Mae Sot catering to socio-politically, educationally, and economically impoverished children from Myanmar. The purpose was to leverage AI technology in order to bring down educational obstacles, improve teaching and learning performance, and establish a personalized LMS system for remote places.
โ
In addition to their technological objectives, AiCE students actively engaged in community service initiatives at the Minmahaw School. Workshops covering fundamental programming, game development from scratch, and AI workshops were provided for both students and professors. The students also contribute to the school's environment by painting walls, organizing the library, and participating in recycling initiatives.
โ
Together with Minmahaw students, everyone releases their inner masterchefโs culinary skills by making a fantastic dinner. Our students also spent time learning braille and sign language from the local Minmahaw students. The influence of these activities stretched beyond the development of technical skills, enriching students' experiences and establishing a dedication to real-world contributions. After the one-week excursion is over, our students are now aiming to generate digital content and media movies for Minmahaw School, empowering them for future usage and marketing for the school.

Beyond the significant work at Minmahaw School, the winter camp offered enriching activities to enhance the students' horizons. A one-night camping excursion to Doi Mon Mok Tawan was a highlight, providing an opportunity for students to connect with nature and each other.

โ
During the camping getaway, students hiked around the Pha-Charoen waterfall with an authorized guide, learning about its history and appreciating the natural biodiversity of the forest area. At night, up on the camping area, a Thai BBQ dinner was enjoyed by the group followed by an educational seminar on AI technology, Nature, and Conservation, where the lecturer highlighted practical uses of AI in daily life and personal experiences.

The night went calmly in private tents, and the early morning provided a beautiful view of the sea of mist, a distinctive highlight of Mon Mok Tawan Mountain. After enjoying this natural show, the group enjoyed a modest breakfast of porridge and coffee before returning to CMKL University, finishing a wonderful winter camp experience that blended technical innovation, community impact, and the beauty of nature.ย
