Studying at CMKL University: An International Student's Perspective

If you’re an international student with a passion for AI and computer engineering, and you’re searching for a globally-minded educational experience, CMKL University may be the perfect fit.

One of the primary concerns for students like us is whether the "international" programs we are considering truly live up to that label. I, too, had this concern when I first looked into studying abroad. Many institutions advertise international programs, but in reality, lectures, announcements, and even parts of the curriculum often contain elements of the native language. This can create an unwelcoming environment where international students feel excluded. Fortunately, CMKL University is different. Here, everything is conducted in English so that no student is left out and everyone has the opportunity to thrive in an inclusive environment.

At CMKL, all official communications—including emails, campus announcements, and all parts of in-class sessions and lectures—are always conducted in English. As a non-native speaker, I find this particularly helpful. This has made a significant difference in my experience because it allows me to fully participate in academic and social activities without the anxiety that can come from language barriers.

Beyond just language, the international composition of the faculty and student body creates a learning experience with diverse perspectives. For example, in my AI and Ethics class, we discussed how AI could be applied in various countries. With people in the room coming from places like Cambodia, Thailand, and the USA, their unique viewpoints made discussions not only more insightful but also relevant to real-world scenarios. We explored how ethical implications might differ depending on the country’s laws, culture, and social norms. It was fascinating to see how the same AI application could have drastically different ethical consequences depending on where and how it’s implemented. This diversity also extends to social activities—whether it’s about getting good food recommendations or learning about another country’s culture, you’ll always find something new to experience!

The international opportunities at CMKL are just as comprehensive as the curriculum. Students can apply for global research programs, internships with multinational companies, or participate in exchange opportunities. The university is proactive in making these processes easier for students. The school offers student services that include resume reviews, cover letter feedback, and mock interview sessions, all geared toward helping you succeed in global opportunities.

Twice an academic year, the university will host meetings to discuss students' future plans. Should a student be interested in spending a semester abroad—whether through internships, research, or an exchange program—the school will help plan your path, secure internal recommendations if possible, and smooth out the application process. CMKL also provides a list of university and corporate partnerships abroad for students to explore.

These opportunities fall into two categories: inbound and outbound. Inbound options allow students to join universities or companies that have signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with CMKL. Outbound options offer students the freedom to select any institution or company abroad. Once a student expresses interest in an outbound option, the staff will initiate conversations with the student's chosen university/company and help plan the entire process.

Of course, being an international student comes with its own set of challenges. Moving to a new country, learning a foreign language, and dealing with often overwhelming bureaucratic processes can sometimes feel like a lot to handle. However, CMKL offers a great amount of support to help make your transition as smooth as possible. For instance, the school provides assistance with complex administrative tasks, such as visa applications and renewals, to help you navigate what would otherwise be a confusing and stressful process.

Personally, It’s also been exciting to watch the growing number of international students and faculty members at CMKL. When I first joined, my batch had a smaller international cohort, but now, just a few years later, the diversity has grown considerably. I hope this trend continues and brings even more students from different corners of the world to CMKL. The university has created a welcoming and diverse environment that I believe many international students would appreciate, just as I have.

I hope you will join us and be part of a growing global community!
