One of the problems that doctors and hospitals have is finding an efficient way of explaining and communicating with patients and their families. Most of the time, doctors need to take lots of time to explain their patients' conditions, causes, and how to treat them. Moreover, patients do not fully understand what their doctors are trying to communicate.
We also lack useful and interesting tools for education. Although there is HoloAnatomy, HoloAnatomy is a mixed-reality learning product that works with Microsoft HoloLens to help people learn about only anatomy. The majority of students who have used it have said that its learning sessions were better than in-person sessions. However, HoloAnatomy does not contain dedicated assets (graphics or other elements to build learning content) or sessions in the field of genomics; it is primarily focused on anatomy.
Our research and development project is mainly for medical usage. We can help doctors to communicate their knowledge to patients and their families a lot easier and more understandably. To clarify, we create an application that shows DNA in 3D in Hololens or Oculus.
Project Objectives
-Create short lessons with sound where users can see and hear such information as “What is DNA?”, “What genetic conditions and diseases are common in Thailand?”, etc.
-Develop visualizations where the user will be able to see in 3D what a doctor would like to demonstrate, with the help of 4 holograms.
-Enable hand manipulation, so that users can explore the 3D holograms from various perspectives.
-Enable voice commands, so that users can dismiss one model or lesson and make another one appear.
Summary and accomplishments
We have successfully constructed an interactive environment and integrated external learning resources into our project, including the simulation room of the DNA, into our unity project. Furthermore, we can illustrate our purpose for the project to the audience's apparent understanding.
