CMKL University Goes Global: Thailand’s First Institution to Join Linux, SONiC, and RISC-V Foundations Simultaneously

CMKL University has officially announced its membership in three of the world’s most influential technology organizations: The Linux Foundation, SONiC Foundation, and RISC-V International. This historic milestone underscores CMKL's vision to propel Thailand into the global arena of Open Infrastructure, Open Networking, and Open Semiconductor Technology. By entering these global ecosystems all at once, CMKL becomes the first university in Thailand to span the entire advanced tech spectrum from cloud operating systems and hyperscale networking to open chip architecture (Open ISA).

This is more than just a formal membership; it is a strategic bridge connecting Thailand directly to the global technology ecosystem that is actively shaping the future of AI Infrastructure, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud Computing, and Semiconductor innovation.

From Open Source to Open Silicon: At the Intersection of "Software → Network → Silicon"
The convergence of these three global giants positions CMKL at the critical intersection of the core pillars driving modern AI and future computing:

• The Linux Foundation: The world's epicenter for open-source collaboration, driving foundational projects like Linux, Kubernetes, and Cloud Native Infrastructure, which serve as the bedrock for modern Cloud and AI systems.
• SONiC Foundation: The force behind SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), an open-source network operating system utilized by global hyperscale data centers and cloud providers to build flexible, transparent, and scalable networks.
• RISC-V International: The governing body for the open instruction set architecture (ISA) that is currently revolutionizing the global semiconductor industry, AI accelerators, edge computing, and future processor design.

By anchoring itself across these three ecosystems, CMKL is establishing a holistic, end-to-end framework necessary for next-generation technological development.

Shaping the Future of Thai Technology on a Global Standard
CMKL University aims to build a thriving local ecosystem for AI infrastructure and advanced digital systems through cutting-edge research, hands-on education, and deep-rooted collaboration with international open communities.

To realize this vision, the university is rolling out several key initiatives:

• Open Infrastructure & AI Systems Research: Advancing foundational research in next-gen cloud and AI frameworks.
• Future Networking & Cloud Testbed: Creating state-of-the-art testing grounds for hyperscale open networking.
• RISC-V & Open Hardware Education: Developing curricula focused on open chip architecture and hardware design.
• AI Infrastructure & HPC Workforce Development: Training the next generation of specialized talent to meet the global demand for AI and high-performance computing engineers.
• Open Technology Collaboration: Bridging the gap between local industries and international open-source communities.
• Student Participation in Global Ecosystems: Providing students with direct opportunities to contribute to global, real-world open-source projects.

"The future of global technology is undeniably driven by open collaboration. Thailand must transition from being a mere consumer of technology to becoming an active co-creator in the global tech ecosystem."

Thailand’s Future in Open Technology
This announcement highlights a massive paradigm shift in the global tech landscape: Open Source is no longer confined to software. It has evolved into a global movement encompassing:

• Open Infrastructure & Cloud Native Systems
• Open Networking (Disaggregated hardware and software)
• Open Hardware & Open Semiconductor Architectures
• Open AI Stacks & Future Computing Platforms

CMKL University is dedicated to creating an open, collaborative space where Thai students, researchers, and industry leaders can align with international standards. Together, we are ready to co-create the future of AI, Cloud, Networking, and Semiconductor technology on the global stage.
