Spring 2026 Seminar Series: "Contrastive Analysis and Unified Parametrization of Phonetic Features and Numerical Calculation of Phonetic Distances between Speech Sounds"

We cordially invite all students, researchers, and industry practitioners to the twelfth session of our Graduate Research Seminar Series (Spring 2026).

This session explores a quantitative framework designed to resolve the long-standing subjectivity in phonetic analysis. By applying Vakulenko’s Unified Parametrization, the research develops a numerical approach to calculate phonetic distances between speech sounds. This study specifically tests the utility of this mathematical model within the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), providing a vital foundation for speech recognition and linguistic modeling. This research is the work of Chua Wei Jie, a Master’s student in the AiCE program at CMKL University.
